1st April 2025 | 15:00 - 16:00 | online | 1 hour

Course description

Supporting children with transition training sessions involves helping them adapt smoothly to changes, such as moving to a new school, classroom, or routine. Here’s a brief overview of best practices:

Prepare in Advance – Provide clear information about the upcoming transition through visual aids, social stories, or discussions.

Familiarisation – Arrange visits to the new environment, introduce key staff, and create opportunities for interaction before the transition.

Consistency & Routine – Maintain familiar routines as much as possible and introduce changes gradually to minimise anxiety.

Emotional Support – Acknowledge children's feelings, encourage open conversations, and offer reassurance through positive reinforcement.

Practical Skills Training – Teach coping strategies like asking for help, following new schedules, and practicing self-regulation techniques.

Parental & Staff Involvement – Collaborate with caregivers and educators to provide consistent messaging and support across different settings.

Follow-up & Monitoring – Check in regularly, address any concerns, and adjust support strategies as needed to ensure a smooth transition.
