Supporting Children and Young People with Anxiety (12/02/25)

Course description

Anxiety can be a difficult topic to navigate, and we understand the pressures and demands placed upon teaching and pastoral staff to effectively support young people experiencing anxiety. 


The training will aim to explore -

·     What is anxiety and what are the different conditions

·     Recognising signs of anxiety disorders in children and young people

·     Strategies to help young people manage stress and anxiety and recognise what level of anxiety is ‘normal’

·     Ways to support children and young people experiencing everyday stresses such as exam pressures

·     Recognising when to bring in specialist help when levels of anxiety need treatment from qualified mental health practitioners

This course is FREE of charge to Manchester schools who have completed the current Health Check. For schools outside of Manchester please contact healthy.schools@mft.nhs.uk for fees.

MEET YOUR TRAINER

Niamh Roberts

Niamh has previously worked in in adult and children’s mental health settings. Niamh most recently worked as an Education Mental Health Practitioner with a Mental Health Support team in Manchester before moving to the Healthy Schools team to start the role of Mental Health Lead. Niamh also has experience working in secondary schools in a mental health support role.

Niamh has worked with many schools across Manchester in her role as an EMHP and looks forward to continuing developing these relationships and supporting schools with their whole school approach to mental health and wellbeing. As Niamh has a combination of a clinical and education background, she is aware of common mental health difficulties experienced by young people and how to identify these, but she is also aware of the current educational context. Niamh is passionate about working with schools, parents and carers to raise awareness of mental health difficulties and promoting early intervention strategies to support young people’s mental health.

Outside of work, Niamh loves to travel, listen to music and go to the gym.
