Communicating with parents/carers who have SEND

Course description

The overall aim of this training session is to support services to improve and maintain effective communication with parents who have learning difficulties. A key factor that influences the quality and success of parental engagement and support is communication. It is vital that services/professionals make their communication accessible to all to ensure effectiveness, more positive engagement and success. 


Learning outcomes:

  • Develop knowledge and understanding of learning disabilities
  • Develop knowledge and understanding of how learning disabilities can impact communication, engagement and overall parenting
  • Identify how services can improve their support for parents with a learning disability and their children


Cost

This course is FREE of charge to Manchester schools who have completed the current Health Check. For schools outside of Manchester please contact healthyschools@mft.nhs for fees.

MEET YOUR TRAINER

Emma Pilling

Emma has worked within a range of education settings for over 10 years and has a strong background teaching in Specialist and SEMH provisions across Primary, Secondary and Post-16. Emma has held a number of roles within her teaching career which includes; Teacher, Key Stage 2 Lead, Literacy Co-ordinator, PE Co-ordinator, Relational Practice Co-ordinator, Behaviour and Inclusion Lead and Wellbeing Curriculum Lead. Emma is a qualified Emotional Coach Practitioner, Mental Health First Aider and recently gained a SEND Diploma. Emma is extremely passionate about using her skills, knowledge and experience to contribute to supporting all Manchester Schools with their whole-school approach to supporting Mental Health and Wellbeing. Outside of work, Emma plays football, likes to attend the gym and her favourite thing of all is spending time with her little boy.
