On the 20th November we kick started our Peer Mentoring Programme for the year with our very first Peer Mentoring Network Event! The event welcomed 50 peer mentors and mental health ambassadors from across our Manchester Secondary Schools.

Peer mentors participated in a training and skills development session delivered by Healthy Schools which helped to support them in designing and developing their very own peer mentoring programme for their schools. The event was also supported by the Mental Health Charity ‘Time To Change’ who delivered valuable Mental Health Awareness Training and a Campaigning Skills Development session to support our mentors in their role. The mentors also had the opportunity to liaise with and work with other peer mentors to share best practice.

There was a great vibe and energy throughout the morning which was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved! Here is just a few of our student feedback received from our mentors that attended:

‘I really enjoyed being able to work with other schools and get new ideas, it was also good to learn about mental health and what people might be going through who I will help out’

‘The training was great, I enjoyed designing our programme and speaking to other schools about their programmes. I can’t wait to get started back at my school’

‘I really liked interacting with other mentors but also enjoyed having time with my group to plan and design our very own peer mentoring programme’

It was great to receive such great feedback from our mentors who we look forward to continuing to support throughout the academic year.
