Accidents are among the leading, but preventable, causes of death, serious injury and long-term disability affecting our population and this number is rising. While we know that accidents can occur at any stage of life, we also know that those most vulnerable to accidental injury are the youngest and poorest members of our communities. With this in mind the UIP Lead has produced an Injury Prevention Calendar to help support schools with their injury prevention messages. The calendar is built around the school academic year and signposts major accident prevention campaigns that schools can get involved with. Schools can get a broad overview of national strategies and the calendar provides links to all available resources. The aim is to provide a broad and balanced curriculum throughout the year on the topic of injury prevention and provide support to ensure that prevention is a core topic within health education.
